I have an irrigation system in my yard. It is not a new system and sometimes needs a bit of maintenance. When repairing a section or adding a new section I often need a connector to attach two pieces of pipe together. Most home irrigation systems use PVC pipe of one half inch diameter. Here are a few of the most basic non threaded connectors available. The non threaded types are what you most often use to attach two pieces of PVC pipe. ![]() ABOVE: PVC Pipe Connectors The simplest piece is a connector that simply attaches one pipe straight flush with another. This might be useful if you want to simply extend a pipe to run further. It would also be useful if you had a damaged pipe that you were replacing. To do this you cut out the damaged part, and using a connector on each end of a new piece of pipe splice it into the missing section. Remember to make the spliced piece a bit smaller than the piece you removed, as the connector has a small spot in the middle where the pipe does not run. There are two angle pieces you can buy, the ninety degree and the fourty five degree. These, as you might expect, will join two pipes at an angle. The next connector is in a T shape, which takes a pipe running in and sends two off at ninety degree angles from it. Finally, there is a cap. You might use this if you had a section of your garden that was irrigated, and you no longer want it to be. To accomplish this you would make a cut around where you want the irrigation to end, and attach the cap there.
