Garden Time talks with former daylily grower Gail Austin. She says that daylilies are great because they bloom all though the hot summer, long after many other flowers have finished fir the year. She suggests buying daylilies when in bloom, so you can really see how they will fit into your flower garden. She also stresses that daylilies are a very tough plant, and with a little care they will perform quite well, and are great even for new gardeners. She does not use fertilizer, but she does use mulch.
How to Plant Daylilies
Dave Epstein from Growing Wisdom talks about planting daylilies with Wayne Mezitt. First you east the daylily out of the pot, do not pull the plant out. If the roots are growing around each other in a mat it is a good idea to loosen them up some so they can establish contact with the ground. Dig a hole no deeper than the plant, but a bit wider. Amend the hole with peat moss and super phosphate. Water it in well when you first plant it.
How to Grow Daylilies : How to Manage Size of Daylilies
Martha Cycz from Expert Village discusses the placement of daylily plants in the flower bed. She stresses that different daylily varieties are different sizes, and that you should plant accordingly. Smaller plants can go at the front of the bed, and as the other plants in a garden gradually get larger you can use larger daylilys in proportion.
